It happens to everyone: One minute you're posting photos from your vacation on social media, the next thing you know, you're under investigation for calling for the killing of an elected official.

Uh…

The post quickly spread like wildfire across social media, with everyone pointing out that calling for the 47th president to be "86'd" was, at best, in poor taste and, at worst, potentially criminal. President Trump's son, Don Jr., calling out Comey's implied message:

(See Cassell's Dictionary of Slang for how the restaurant term "86" became a well-known euphemism for murder.)

Others soon followed, turning up the heat on Comey like a frog in a pot of water. He took down the photo and posted an apology/explanation/excuse that only seemed to make the situation even weirder:

So, if, for the sake of argument, Comey made an innocent mistake, it still means that the man who spent years as the highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the country "never knew" that the term "86" was a euphemism for killing someone? That's comforting.

Of course, (grab your tin foil hat) there's also this insane connection:

Despite Comey taking the post down, current FBI Director Kash Patel was already on the case:

Meanwhile, Director of National Security Tulsi Gabbard appeared on Fox News with Jesse Waters to make her feelings known:

Smart money says Comey's done posting vacation pics.
