Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather around to celebrate the life of America's oldest serving mayor, Vito Perillo, who died Saturday at the age of 100.
Perillo was serving his second term as the mayor of Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

Serving your community until 100 years old is something else.
Born in 1924, Perillo served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a civil engineer before deciding to run for mayor in 2017. At the age of 93, Perillo campaigned door-to-door, handing out flyers and, according to legend, burning through two pairs of shoes on the campaign trail.
He would eventually beat the incumbent by around 300 votes. And, of course he was reelected in 2021 at the age of 97.
NBC News reported back in 2021 that the oldest mayor ever served until he was 99 years old. So, in that case, this makes Vito Perillo the oldest mayor ever.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy chimed in on the death of this legend of a man:
A World War II vet who served his community until he was 100 years old.
You love to see it!
Rest in peace, Mr. Perillo.
