In what comes as a surprise to no one, a California district attorney is being investigated for being a meth head.

Mike McAfee, the district attorney of Mariposa County, stepped down after his dealer, Gary Schisnewski, showed texts from the DA to the local paper, which then showed them to the local sheriff.

According to SF Gate,

The texts published by the Gazette, some of which included typos, show McAfee asking for 'the usual energy pack,' or 'a little pick me up,' often arranging drop-offs at his Merced home or along his commute to Mariposa. On April 16, McAfee allegedly asked Schisnewski to meet him at a middle school in Merced to buy from him, the Gazette reported.

McAfee met Schisnewski when he prosecuted and then later defended him for drug dealing.

Schisnewski says they golfed together after McAfee agreed to defend him, and that's when the DA first started asking for "party favors."

From there, Schisnewski alleged, the prosecutor became his only customer. ‘I felt I had to [sell drugs] or he would've messed with me,' he told the Gazette.

When asked about the meth claims, McAfee said,

‘I'm not going to give that credence or answer such a stupid question.'

He said his decision to resign was not related to the release of the texts.

His phone, however, was seized via a warrant issued by Merced Superior Court Judge Mark Bacciarini.

The case is currently being investigated by the state attorney general, which is standard procedure when a district attorney is accused of a crime.
