Mississippi Democrat Bennie Thompson said during a congressional hearing that the attack on two guardsmen by an Muslim illegal alien terrorist was an "unfortunate accident." He immediately got ripped for it.

Hey, good on Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem for calling out this nonsense immediately.
I think "scumbag" is the proper moniker in this case.
Thompson: Madame Secretary, you and the gentleman from NCTC reference the unfortunate accident that occurred with the national guardsman being killed.
Noem: You think that was an unfortunate accident? It was a terrorist attack.
Thompson: I mean - wait- wait, I'll get it straight then you can respond.
Noem: He shot our National Guardsmen in the head.
Thompson: Look! Mr. Chairman, will you direct the witness to allow me to axe my question? It was an unfortunate situation.
Well, I'm glad he apparently got to "axe" his question after this.
The double down on the "unfortunate" incident at the end shows that, yes, Bennie Thompson really is an imbecile.
