Rep. LaMonica McIver of New Jersey messed around and found out.
From the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey:
Representative LaMonica McIver assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1). That conduct cannot be overlooked by the chief federal law enforcement official in the State of New Jersey, and it is my Constitutional obligation to ensure that our federal law enforcement is protected when executing their duties.
I have persistently made efforts to address these issues without bringing criminal charges and have given Representative Melver every opportunity to come to a resolution, but she has unfortunately declined. No one is above the law — politicians or otherwise.
It is the job of this office to uphold justice impartially, regardless of who you are. Now we will let the justice system work.
Back on May 9, Newark Mayor Ray Baraka was arrested for "storming" an ICE facility in his city. We wondered if some of the congressional Democrats who were there would be arrested too.
Lady was out there shoving ICE agents around like it was some sort of, well, war in the streets.
Speaking of, here was McIver back in February:
She wanted to play stupid games, and we all know what kind of prizes come of that.
According to previous comments from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, these charges are a "red line ... they dare not cross."
("They" being the Trump administration.)
Well, Hakeem said "they'll find out" what happens if they make arrests, so we're going to be finding out here pretty soon.
