There's a lot to parse through in the massive Republican budget reconciliation bill passed in the House early this morning.

And there's also a decent bit to celebrate, too:

From Bearing Arms:

Today ... I get to take a step toward actual celebration, because the biggest Second Amendment legislative victory in my lifetime is one step closer to happening.

That's right, boys and girls, suppressor delisting is back in the budget that was approved by the House on a 215-214 vote earlier today.

You got it, friends and neighbors: We might be looking at a massive Second Amendment win in the next few weeks — and we didn't even have to take it to the Supreme Court!

If you're not familiar with the onerous process of securing a suppressor in the United States, the American Suppressor Association has the details:

To legally purchase or possess a suppressor you must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age to purchase a suppressor from a dealer.

  • Be at least 18 years of age to purchase a suppressor from an individual on a Form 4 to Form 4 transfer (contingent on state laws).

  • Be at least 18 years of age to possess a suppressor as a beneficiary of a trust or as a member of a corporation (contingent on state laws).

  • Be a resident of the United States.

  • Be legally eligible to purchase a firearm.

  • Pass a BATFE background check with a typical process time of 8 to 10 months.

  • Pay a one time $200 Transfer Tax.

  • Reside in one of the 42 states that currently allows civilian ownership of suppressors.

The protracted hassle of obtaining a suppressor turns many people off to them — and that's a terrible shame, as when used in a life-or-death situation, a suppressor can make the difference between hearing and deafness.

There are plenty of suppressor demonstration videos on YouTube; it can be difficult to capture just the difference that one makes, though you can get a general idea of it from videos like this:

The bill's passage, meanwhile, was a real last-minute victory for gun owners. As Guns.com notes, the original bill "only included a provision to reduce the transfer tax on suppressors to $0," while the passed amendment "deletes the NFA regulations surrounding the devices overall."

Here's the relevant portion of the bill passed today that would help bring an end to this decades-old nonsense:

Let's hope this thing sails through the Senate and gets a quick sign from Trump. I'll be celebrating by buying a suppressor!
