You may not know, but Mystal (a journalist at The Nation) is actually saying the quiet part out loud.
Leftists see the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act as a replacement of the Constitution. This is why leftwing courts now hear cases based on the premise of violating "civil rights" and consider enhanced punishments for "hate crimes," categories that never existed in the Founding Father's understanding of Natural Law and the inalienable rights that come from God.
Without that Christian understanding of the equality of all people and the rights granted to them as imagebearers of God, the Western world would have never become the first civilization in human history to rid itself of the barbarism of the slave trade, let alone work toward ethnic integration in society, let alone compel the majority of the world to end their own slave trades or face economic and militaristic consequences (slavery was literally present everywhere for all of time until just over a century ago).
But let's pass over the fact that Mystal is a nincompoop who can't help but tell you how he wants to remake American in his image, according to his Marxist ideology.
He says we shouldn't care about the laws made by old white men.
