Raphael Glucksmann, a French Euro-deputy to the EU parliament, demanded that the United States return the Statue of Liberty to France.
Now, if you're like me, you might be initially thinking it was because of President Trump's border policies. Lady Liberty's plaque reads:
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
And some have incorrectly interpreted that as a call for open borders, so it might make some sort of sense if a French politician might say Trump isn't fulfilling that mandate.
However, we don't live in a rational world anymore.
Glucksmann doesn't even mention immigration when demanding Lady Liberty's return. He made the call when President Trump scaled back the indirect costs of research grants (the money universities take off the top of scientists's grants) and initiated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

‘We're going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: "Give us back the Statue of Liberty,"' he told cheering supporters.
'We gave it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it. So it will be just fine here at home,' he added.
Because France is so known for its liberty these days.
Matt Walsh had thoughts:
So did the White House:
As far as the Statue of Liberty goes, I think Colonel McIntosh's response to British forces demanding he surrender Fort Morris in 1778 is appropriate here:
You want it?
Come and take it!
