Israel says it dropped a bomb to send Hamas's military chief into the afterlife

Apparently, Israel didn't want to take any chances that this guy would escape:

Yeah, that's the crater left by a bomb. A very big bomb.

Muhammad Deif was second in command in Hamas, serving as its military chief. He was one of the chief architects of the October 7th, 2023, terror attack on Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said they do not yet have remains to confirm if Deif was killed.

More from the Wall Street Journal:

Israel had indications in recent days that it may have the opportunity to strike Deif, one of Hamas's most secretive commanders, but the window only emerged in real time, one official said.

Gaza officials said scores of Palestinian civilians were killed and many more wounded in the strike, which they said was in the al-Mawasi area, where Israel has told Gaza civilians to move to avoid fighting elsewhere.

Typical terrorist: Hiding behind as many civilians as possible.

I've seen reports of as many as 70 dead, which you always have to take with a grain of salt, considering that "Gaza officials" and "Hamas" are essentially interchangeable.

And from The New York Times:

On Oct. 7, as Hamas launched its attack on Israeli towns and military installations, Mr. Deif released a recorded speech declaring that the group had launched its operation so 'the enemy will understand that the time of their rampaging without accountability has ended.'

'Righteous fighters, this is your day to bury this criminal enemy,' he said in the speech, which was broadcast on Hamas's Al-Aqsa TV. 'Its time has finished. Kill them wherever you find them,' he added. 'Remove this filth from your land and your sacred places. Fight and the angels fight with you.'

What a guy.
