What in the science-fiction dystopia is happening over at Meta AI?
Zuckerberg says that Meta, parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is working on personalizing AI so you can supplement your friendships with computer programs.
Listen to this:
I think as the personalization loop kicks in and the AI just starts to get to know you better and better, I think that will just be really compelling ...
The average American I think has fewer than three friends - three people that they'd consider friends. And the average person has demand for meaningfully more, I think it's like 15 friends or something ... the average person wants more connectivity - connection - than they have.
He goes on to explain how his AI won't replace real human connection, but it will supplement it.
Here he was on Theo Von's podcast talking about how Meta's AI will get to know you and act more like a friend than a computer.
Here's a thought:
You know, it's funny. I feel like most people had MORE friends BEFORE the social network phenomenon. Almost as if this fake human "connectivity" has actually created friendless people. And to solve that we aren't getting rid of the social media. Social media is just trying to become better at replacing human friendships.

Mark Zuckerberg, more than any single individual, has brought social media to life, stifling real-life friendships. But he's going to fix the problem of algorithm-driven virtual friendships with human beings by making artificial intelligence replace 80% of your friendship needs.
Sorry, Zuck, you do you. But most of us don't want artificial robot besties.
