Ah, politics.
Check out astronaut Barry Wilmore's response to this question from the Washington Post π
What [Elon] says is absolutely factual.
In February, the SpaceX CEO and DOGE overlord said the two astronauts stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) had been left there by Joe Biden for "political reasons."
In January, President Donald Trump tasked Elon with getting the astronauts home.
Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams piloted Boeing's failed mission to the space station last June. Boeing was given a $4.2 BILLION taxpayer-funded contract in 2014 to design a capsule to take astronauts to and from the ISS. After becoming a money pit with years of setbacks, it finally launched in 2024 ... only to be scuttled due to a problem onboard.
In September, SpaceX launched a capsule and successfully retrieved four other astronauts from the station.
SpaceX began shuttling astronauts to the ISS in 2020 because of Boeing's delays, and now seems to be the only American company capable of delivering on the promise that Boeing couldn't figure out for a decade.
But Joe Biden didn't want SpaceX to get the glory for returning these astronauts because Elon is a top supporter of his rival.
