Absolutely awful news from North Carolina.

NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who went out of his way to use his resources to rescue North Carolinians after hurricane Helene last year, has died along with his wife and children in a plane accident on Thursday.

From Yahoo News:

Multiple people were killed when a plane crashed at the Statesville Regional Airport in rural North Carolina on Thursday morning, erupting into a large fire on the runway, according to the Associated Press.

The plane was a Cessna C550 owned by GB Aviation Leasing. The address listed on the FAA registry for the plane matches an address for NASCAR star Greg Biffle in Mooresville, N.C., Yahoo Sports has confirmed.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that there were six people on board the plane when it crashed, but did not identify any of the passengers.

Other reports say Biffle and his family were 4 of the 6 passengers onboard.
