Well, given the NFL's history, did we expect them to cut ties with an alleged child rapist?
I know I didn't!
Some of you might not be up to date here, but rapper Jay-Z has recently had his name added to a lawsuit alleging he participated, along with Diddy, in the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
Jay-Z, the star rapper and entrepreneur whose real name is Shawn Carter, was accused in a lawsuit Sunday of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 allegedly along with Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
The anonymous accuser, identified only as ‘Jane Doe,' said the assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
I'm going to spare you the details, but here's NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explaining why the NFL's relationship with Jay-Z and his company, Roc Nation, which "has produced events and activism for the NFL since 2019," will not be changing. The NFL recently extended their agreement with Roc Nation.
More, but with much lower volume:
We're aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z's really strong response to that, and we know obviously litigation is happening now, but from our standpoint our relationship's not changing with them, including preparations for the next Super Bowl …
I think they're getting incredibly comfortable with not just the Super Bowl, but other events that they've advised us on and helped us with. They've been helpful in the social justice area to us on many occasions. They've been great partners that have provided a lot of value to us.
Just gonna keep em on until it all comes out, huh, Rog?
Here's part of Jay-Z's response to the allegations, which Goodell mentioned.
These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!
Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?
These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.
I'd be interested to see how the NFL would respond if a criminal complaint was made in this case. Until then, they're doing what the NFL does best, and keeping alleged criminals employed.
Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce, is scheduled to perform at the Ravens-Texans game on Christmas.
(It's not a Harris-Walz event, so you can actually expect her to be there.)
