Safeway grocery stores close San Francisco Location because of theft and safety concerns

Can you blame them?

According to a spokesperson for the company, Safeway will be shuttering its location in the Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco "due to ongoing concerns about associate and customer safety, as well as persistent issues with theft."

The statement continued:

We remain committed to serving San Francisco at our 15 remaining locations, and to ensure that our unionized workforce can perform their jobs in safe and secure working environments.

Apparently, Safeway had wanted to close earlier in the year due to constant shoplifting and assaults on employees, but were talked out of it by community members.
