If you see a Presbyterian church with a trans flag on the door, that's a PC(USA) church. They love wokeness with a fierce passion, unlike the more conservative Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), which is still flirting with wokeness.
The PC(USA) is so woke that it has female pastors who brag about their abortions and give sermons about how God lies to us.
In a move that should surprise no one, the denomination let its international missionaries know that the church wasn't going to be doing the whole "missionary" thing anymore after more than a century and a half.
They also shuttered the Presbyterian Mission Agency completely.
'We're witnessing the slow dismantling of one of our church's most defining ministries,' said Karla Ann Koll, a Presbyterian missionary to Costa Rica. 'At a time when the world needs solidarity, this decision sends the opposite signal.'
While it's tempting to think it might be because the church can't financially support the missionaries due to dwindling numbers, that's not the reason at all. They've got more than enough money to cover those costs.
The reason for the switch is because they've reinterpreted the word "mission."
The Rev. Jihyun Oh, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly, says,
While they considered understandings of mission as 'sending' or 'missionaries,' ultimately they chose to translate the phrase as 'the work God does.' Oh went on to explain how that idea extends beyond just sharing the good news of Jesus to the whole work of God in the world, and how we are able to engage in that work only through partnership.
‘Partnership is theologically and biblically based on the fundamental belief that God's love for the world is greater than any one church can possibly comprehend or realize,' Oh said.
This understanding, Oh said, calls us not only to ecumenical partnership, but also to partnership with people of other faiths.
To sum up:
"Missions" now doesn't need to include the Great Commission.
The focus will be on working on joining forces with belief systems that are antithetical to the Gospel.
Instead of sharing the only means of salvation through knowledge of Jesus Christ with the nations, the PC(USA) will exalt other gods in the name of inclusion.
What's left of the mission agency is being rolled into the Interim Unified Agency, which does all sorts of fun activities like participating in interfaith Gaia-worshipping services:
On the plus side, if the PC(USA) is really this far gone, maybe it's better that they aren't out there trying to make converts.
