Remember when America was founded and you could make whatever firearms you wanted to your heart's content?
Apparently the Supreme Court doesn't.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld government regulation of self-assemble firearm kits that produce untraceable weapons known as 'ghost guns.'
The 7-2 decision came from Justice Neil Gorsuch. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented.
MY DUDES HELD THE LINE.
'The Gun Control Act embraces, and thus permits ATF to regulate, some weapon parts kits and unfinished frames or receivers, including those we have discussed,' Gorsuch wrote.
Gotta love how the majority of the "conservative" justices love to vote with the liberals 😭
In 2022, the ATF made a rule (they like to bypass Congress by coming up with random rules out of the top of their hats) saying certain gun parts like frames, along with DIY gun kits, should be classified as "firearms" under the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Stores that sell these products would be required to run background checks and give these kits and parts serial numbers.
A lower court in Texas initially blocked the ATF's rule. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals supported that ruling. But the Biden admin asked SCOTUS to consider the case, saying it was an important issue of national security since crimes using untraceable guns are on the rise (I'm sure that had nothing to do with Biden's open border).
These kind of gun-control debates often start with good intentions: Protecting public safety. We all want criminals to be stopped before they hurt people.
But as they say about good intentions...

If parts of a gun can be considered a firearm, then that opens the door for the debate on the definition of "parts."
Consider how the Ninth Circuit ruled this month that some parts of a gun are not considered a firearm and are therefore not protected under the Second Amendment individually. The case upheld California's dumb law limiting magazines to 10 rounds.
The gun-control crowd can work its way into these cracks to create confusion that leads to red tape. Confusion is the point, in the same way that muddying the definition of "woman" advances the transgender agenda.
While law-abiding Americans are forced to deal with layers of endless bureaucracy to retain the right to make their own weapons, bad guys will continue ignoring gun laws.
I have a feeling this will be included as part of Thomas and Alito's dissent, which I will link here when it becomes available.
I'll end with a note: Trump could cut through this mess pretty easily if he just got rid of the agency that's causing these headaches.
