You hate to see this: A Turkish Airlines flight had to make an emergency stop at JFK Airport in New York after the 59-year-old pilot sadly passed away mid-flight.

The tragic event happened this morning on Turkish Airlines flight 204 from Seattle to Istanbul. The captain, who had a seemingly normal health examination in early August, fainted mid-flight, and when the medical team intervened to no avail, the co-pilot and his crew decided to make for New York City.

A Turkish Airlines spokesman wrote on X:

Couldn't have said it better myself.

"We wish God's mercy upon our captain and patience to his grieving family, all his colleagues and loved ones."
