Ive screwed up big time.
I've got one particular class that's mostly male. A lot of them are approaching the age where you're starting to see them begin to associate with gang and roadmen culture.
I've been trying to reach out to them and I've always had a passion for debating and chess. So I started running a debating club after school which has proven very popular.
I'd discussed doing a chess club, but no firm decision was made.
In the run up to Christmas break lessons tend to wind down a bit. Some teachers put on movies. I decided to bring in my collection of chess boards I've acquired over the years. About 8 of them.
I then taught the class how to play chess. Most didn't know. We did this for 3 lessons and everyone seemed to get into it.
What I didn't realise and I didn't know was that chess is forbidden for about a 1/3 of my class.
Can you guess what religion a THIRD OF THE BRITISH HIGH SCHOOL CLASS belongs to?
I've got 6 parents angrily complaining to the Headmaster/Headmistress for teaching and encouraging them to play it.
I don't know yet what is going on or what is going to happen. The Headmaster/Headmistress is furious with me. They have already shouted at me for causing this issue.
There's going to be a formal disciplinary meeting organised in the coming days.
I have been employed with this school since mid-2023.
I am not a member of the trade union. They refused to help me back in 2018 with a separate harassment case because my harasser was a prominent member of their trade union. I resigned back then and never looked back.
Can I please, please, please get some advice on what I need to do now? I've never had a single blemish on my record before. I'm exceeding all expectations in my reviews.
Should I be organising my own employment solicitor to accompany me to this disciplinary meeting? I'm 99.9% sure the Headmaster/Headmistress is planning to turn me into a sacrificial lamb to appease the angry parents.
Games like chess are considered sinful by some Islamic communities.
England is now an Islamic community.
