A China-born US Navy sailor who sold sensitive ship information to the Chinese government under the encouragement of his mother was ordered to spend 16 years in prison on Monday.
Jinchao Wei, 25, was blasted as a 'traitor' as he was ordered to spend 200 months behind bars by a federal judge in San Diego for selling national defense information to an intelligence officer working for the People's Republic of China for $12,000, the Justice Department announced.
Sold out America for $12k.
There's gotta be some way to prevent people who don't actually like their country and have loyalty to another country from joining the military.
Investigators found that Wei was recruited by the Chinese foreign intelligence officer, whom Wei referred to as 'Big Brother Andy,' through social media while he was applying for US citizenship in February 2022.
Evidence showed that Wei suspected early on that the man — who initially portrayed himself as a naval enthusiast working for the state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation — was a Chinese military intelligence officer.
So, Chinese espionage officials are apparently poaching young people from China who are applying for American citizenship to spy for China once they're in?
Then why are we taking more immigrants from China? And why are we letting them join the military?
In this case, Wei joined the Navy then took $500 per trip around the dock to photograph and send back to Big Brother Andy what ships were in dock. He made just $12k over a little more than a year on his mission.
His mom found out about it and, according to the court case, encouraged her son to keep spying so that he might win a cushy job working for the ChiComms back home.
Well, sort of home, the mom is unidentified and still living in Wisconsin.
But we all know that home is where the heart is. And her heart is not in Wisconsin.
