A concerning report from International Christian Concern claims 11 Vietnamese Christians have gone missing after being sentenced to prison for practicing their faith.

The prisoners are comprised of six Protestants and five Catholics who were sentenced to a combined total of 90 years and 8 months in prison.

Four of the Protestants and the five Catholics were accused of "undermining national unity policy" for belonging to denominations that weren't approved by the communist government.

The other two Protestants faced government "lawfare" after refusal to renounce their faith. One was arrested for "deforestation" after he used some trees near his home to make repairs. The other was imprisoned for refusing to cancel worship services.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has reported that conditions for these prisoners are bad with frequent beatings and torture.

Now, the whereabouts of all 11 Christians are unknown.

The USCIRF also reported that the process for church approval by the government is often "complicated and burdensome," with applications taking years.

Speaking about these abuses in Vietnam, Republican Rep. Glenn Grothman said:

Many Americans do not know the horrors of communism and the human rights abuses that happen daily in communist countries like Vietnam. The United States has a role as a leader to promote and defend religious liberty on the world stage, and that starts with denouncing the Vietnamese government for its track record of religious persecution.

Pray for the persecuted church, and for these 11 missing believers.
