No one wanted to believe it would actually happen, though it seemed inevitable from the get-go, but New York City has elected a Ugandan-born Indian Muslim socialist with an African Studies degree from Bowdoin College as its next mayor.
Zohran Mamdani, an admitted socialist who says his end goal is to "seize the means of production" and has made no effort to hide his radical views and past statements about the United States, Israel, 9/11, and capitalism, was chosen as the next leader of the largest city in America.
The New York Post had more of the gory details:
The Associated Press called the race for Mamdani, 34, about 40 minutes after polls closed, and with at least a few hundred thousand votes still to be counted.
Mamdani carried 50.4% of votes to Andrew Cuomo's 41.3% at around 9:40 p.m. The projection — which came with 75% of votes counted — also found GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa with rock-bottom 7.5%.
The Uganda-born Mamdani will be the Big Apple's first Muslim and first socialist mayor, as well as one of the youngest.
Notably, young women were among those who were most enthusiastic for gay race communism.
Many of these women do not seem to be aware of Mamdani's outspoken communist beliefs.
In his victory speech on Tuesday evening, Mamdani leaned fully into Ronald Reagan's "nine most terrifying words," promising that the government would solve all New York City's problems.
He also quoted socialist leaders.
Mamdani promised that he would be a mayor for all the migrants, many of them illegal, who have come to the "sanctuary city" in recent years.
Mamdani's Marxist platform involves taxing the kulaks - err, wealthy New Yorkers - and redistributing it. He is even on record calling for the abolishment of private property as one method of redistribution.
There are a few billionaires, however, that might escape the communist revolution since they had a hand in funding it!
A few more reactions:
Perhaps most concerning was this observation from CNN's Van Jones, a leftist activist himself, noticing that Mamdani went full Emperor Palpatine the moment the power started flowing through his veins.
Reminds me of this meme:
We have over 100 years of data.
The story of Marxism is always the same, no matter which attractive smooth-talker with iconic facial hair is in power.
New York is about to find that out!
