Yes, you can now see where the anonymous accounts are from.

There are thousands of accounts like this. Many of them explicitly claim to be American or Western, but are run by random people in Asia and Africa to sow chaos and get clicks.

Many of these accounts are leftwing activists and "reporters" who have amassed large followings based on what appears to be, well, lies.

X made this change over the last week to all of its users globally.

If you click on a profile, you can click on the profile's join date under their bio and it will show you location details for that user.

While many of these accounts are pretending to be American or Western in order to get ad revenue or sell merch...

...And some just exist to get clicks by supporting people like Elon Musk...

...many others are purposely trying to sway American public opinion with propaganda by pretending to be American.

X even has a little exclamation point next to locations that might be false due to the use of a VPN. Consider this popular "red pill" account:

Many accounts use AI-generated or stolen images, particularly of attractive blonde women, to pretend to be "MAGA" when they are actually Thai engagement farms making money off clicks.

There are also accounts monitoring foreign countries/wars that are based in ... Canada?

The lesson?

This kind of engagement farming isn't limited to X (anyone been to TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram lately?).

Many of the accounts you interact with on the daily - especially the ones peddling racism, Jew hatred, immigration opinions, and/or selling you stuff - are run by random dudes in Third World countries that have everything to profit from sowing discord and taking your money. They don't share your values, they don't care about America, and they don't care about you. They do want you to argue with your neighbors and make snap financial or political decisions based on a post from a guy in India, though.

Some food for thought as you browse the modern internet.
