A Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Orem, Utah, made waves a few weeks ago when it posted this photo of a gay couple celebrating their marriage:
After thousands of angry customers and online reactors expressed their dismay at the famously conservative Christian company seemingly abandoning its conservative values, the company finally responded.
And no, this didn't come from the standalone Chick-Fil-A location. According to reports, this came straight from corporate:
Thank you for contacting Chick-Fil-A CARES. Chick-fil-A embraces all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Chick-fil-A, Inc. is committed to being Better at Together by embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in everything we do. We strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. We do this by focusing on Chick-fil-A's four Corporate Social Responsibility Pillars: Caring for People, Caring for our Communities, Caring for Others through our Food, and Caring for our Planet. To learn more, visit our Giving Back page and our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion page.
Chick-fil-A has been going down this road for a while. Back in 2023, they hired a "President of DEI," Erick McReynolds.
They still have an entire page on their website committed to DEI called "Better at Together" that promises no discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression."
At the time Chick-fil-A announced a DEI initiative, Mike Huckabee said this in an interview with the Family Research Council:
They've bought into the lie. I don't know any other way to say it. I can't be polite about it, because there's no way to say, ‘Oh, they're just trying to stay out of harm's way.' No, they have injected themselves into the diversity, equity, and inclusion model. ...And when a company does that, what they basically are saying is — ‘We want to be able to sit at the cool kids' table. … We don't want to be over there by ourselves anymore. We don't want people to make fun of us or point their fingers at us.'
The funny thing about this is that DEI isn't even cool anymore. Secular corporations are abandoning DEI in droves, including Ford, John Deere, Cracker Barrel, Lowe's, Toyota, and many others. Why is Chick-Fil-A holding onto this garbage?
Chick-fil-A's purpose, as stated on their website, is to "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us."
Major "L" for Chick-fil-A here.
