This is the kind of incident that makes your heart stop when you witness it:

Believe it or not, the sweat-inducing video above only tells half the story. The planes really did almost collide, though the near-miss footage above shows the aircraft after the crisis had been avoided.
Turns out the closest they came to a catastrophic mid-air disaster was several seconds before the dashcam footage picks them up.
The Delta pilot's quick steering thankfully avoided a deadly collision.
You can picture the pilots in both aircraft at that point, who might have looked something like this:
By the time the planes were seen in the dash cam footage, the danger had thankfully been left behind:
When the two planes reached the same altitude [as depicted in the video] ... they were actually a mile apart.
This is what we call a "cheap lesson," folks!
Well, except for the air traffic control guy who probably got canned.
